Boy Scout Fire Preventive Approach: Be Prepared At All Times

Boy Scout Fire PreventionA preventive approach is always better when dealing with fire safety instead of just focusing on how to contain it. Just like the practical Boy Scout motto, "Be Prepared," it will always be beneficial to be equipped and on guard in any situation, you are in. It is only but right to start making your own fire safety plans for your home. It is not enough to just purchase AFFF fire extinguishers and be done with it. There are fire preventive measures that one must adhere to ensure the wellness of each member of the family and avoid the possibility of damage to the property.

Start by fireproofing your home. It is already a fact that accidents do happen and there are certain things in life that we have no control over but it does not mean that we are just going to sit down and do nothing about it. It would be wise if you put all flammable materials or combustible stuff far away from heaters and fireplaces. Check the wires of your electric appliances and the extension cords as exposed or loose wires are one of the easiest fire starters. Make sure you keep lighters or box of matches away from reach of the children, as they love to play with it. Better yet, teach them the consequences of playing with fire early on. Do not just reprimand them from playing with matches but also explain why you are doing so.

Do not let familiarity of the house distract you from setting it up for a fireproof lifestyle. Do not be among those 2 million people who would annually get involved in home accidents yearly in UK. A little common sense with fire safety measures will help you avoid getting into fire mishaps. If you love burning scented candles while taking a bath, eating dinner or just for the aromatic therapy, make sure you never leave them attended. Place them to safe areas inside appropriate candleholders.

Cooking is also another way of getting into fire accidents. Checking on the safety of your gas appliances and gas pipeline regularly will help a lot. It is also a must that you keep a fire extinguisher inside the kitchen especially if cooking is done regularly. Since most kitchen fires involve oil or gas, water is not a proper substance to contain and stop the fire. Get AFFF fire extinguishers as it can readily eliminate fire and has the capability of coating the burned material or appliance to ensure that it will not rekindle again. Installing a fire alarm system is also another way of detecting fire.

When the fire gets out of control, the next best thing is to escape the building. Make sure that you already plan for an escape route in your house no matter how small or big it is. Emergency exits are important since fire can make a person anxious and most likely will lead to panic. To avoid this, a well-planned emergency fire exit is best during emergencies. Learn from a Boy Scout: always be prepared. Teaching your family about these things will make them feel safer and will act steadily during these situations.
